Christmas Celebration Weekend 6 & 7th December 2008
Santa brings Christmas cheer to Heaton Park
Santa Claus is coming to town and will be calling into the Farm Centre at Heaton Park on Saturday 6 December and Sunday 7 December 2008.
Children can visit him in his grotto over the two days between 12noon and 3pm, tell him their Christmas wish-lists and will even receive a small gift. There is a charge of £3 for the grotto.
Father Christmas isn't the only attraction to get people feeling festive and there is lots to see do for people of all ages.
The 2-day Christmas Extravaganza is a great place to do some Christmas shopping with market stalls run by local traders selling crafts and gifts in the Farm Centre and Christmas trees, wreaths and seasonal plants available here and in the Horticultural Centre.
Visitors are invited to join a winter walk from the entrance of Heaton Hall around the park's beautiful grounds, accompanied by a member of staff who will be on hand to discuss points of interest. Guided walks begin every hour, on the hour between 12noon and 3pm.
Tours of Heaton Hall are also being held by the Friends of Heaton Park between 12pm - 4pm, where there will be mince pies and mulled wine available for those who have worked up an appetite,
Hot chestnuts will be roasting at the Farm Centre, while the Stables Café will be serving up delicious hot turkey and cranberry rolls and other tempting treats.
Weather permitting, boats will be available to hire for a relaxing row on the lake and children will enjoy donkey rides and small fair rides outside the Farm Centre.
Councillor Mike Amesbury, Executive Member for Culture and Leisure for Manchester City Council said: "What a treat we have in store this weekend for visitors to Heaton Park. It's the perfect setting for families to begin celebrating the festive season together and I'm sure they'll all enjoy the leisurely pace and relaxing atmosphere that harks back to the Christmases of yesteryear."
For visitors to the park on Sunday 7 December there will be a few additional treats. Horse-drawn carriage rides will be offered from the Triangle and the Lakeside café (£2 per person or family ticket £5) and people will also have the chance to take a tram ride from the Tram Museum.
Throughout the weekend there will also be displays from the Friends of Heaton Park, Tramway and Manchester Beekeepers, who all help to make Heaton Park such a wonderful place to visit.
