Manchester Tree Party 2010
Tree-mendous party comes to Heaton Park
A children's TV star, a falconry display and a bearded dragon are just a few of the attractions on offer during an event at Heaton Park this weekend.
Families are being invited to a fun filled day of woodland festival activities at the Tree Party, aimed at promoting the importance of trees in the city.
The event, taking place at the Heaton Park Farm Centre, from 11am-4pm on Saturday 2 October, will feature an appearance by Katrina Bryan, star of CBeebies' Nina And The Neurons.
Youngsters can also watch a falconry display from Vale Royal Falconry, see whether they're brave enough to put on a harness and have a go at tree climbing, and be entertained by the Animal Experience where they can get up close with meerkats, snakes and even a bearded dragon.
They can also have a go at decorating heir own cupcakes with a nature themed cake decorating class, and learn natural skills such as willow weaving and bird box building with help from the BBC's Breathing Places project.
The event is being held as part of the City Council's Proud Of Manchester campaign, which celebrates life in the city's neighbourhoods and encourages residents to take pride in the city's parks and green spaces.
Councillor Nigel Murphy, Manchester City Council's Executive Member for the Environment, said: "This will be a wonderful event for residents to have a great time and find out more about the important role trees play in making Manchester a greener city.
"I'd like to urge as many families as possible to come along to Heaton Park this weekend and get involved."
