Why not visit our new pampered pigs?
This month sees two new livestock arrivals at Heaton Park. They're a pair of Kune Kune pigs called Boris and Horace.
Kune Kune pigs are a rare breed pig originating from New Zealand, although they have been bred in the UK for a number of years now. The Kune Kune pig came close to extinction in the 1970's. Boris and Horace were born and raised in England.
Kune Kune pigs are small, between 60-75 cms in height. Unusually for a pig they also have a pair of tassels under their chin called piri piri.
The pigs have a wonderful temperament and seem to enjoy interaction with humans.
The pigs are happy to live outdoors all year provided they have shelter and a diet of grass, fresh fruit and vegetables, which is supplemented in the winter with grass nuts.
Why not come along and see Boris and Horace in the Farm Centre next time you visit Heaton Park.
