Faldo to Hunt Golfing Talent in Manchester
Golf professional and three times Open Champion, Nick Faldo, is inviting youngsters from across Manchester to showcase their talent in Heaton Park, as he searches Britain for the sport's future stars.
The Faldo Series Qualifiers, which the sporting hero set up ten years ago to find the next generation of golfing talent and to provide the resources to nurture their abilities, will be held at Heaton Park Golf Course on Wednesday 16 April.
Councillor Michael Amesbury, Assistant Executive Member for Arts & Leisure said: "The tournament has continued to grow in stature and reputation every year and offers fantastic opportunities for young golfers across Manchester. We are delighted to be hosting the Qualifiers for the fourth consecutive year as part of our commitment to sports provision throughout the city."
The Qualifiers come just as Heaton Park's Golf Course management, Mack Trading, have been awarded the Golf Mark status accreditation, for their attitude and support for junior golf. It is a national scheme organised by English Golf Union to identify and recognise junior and beginner friendly facilities.
Very few golf clubs in the UK have the accreditation and it is an extremely positive step for Heaton Park's golfing facilities and its commitment to provision for young people.
The Faldo Series Qualifiers are open to talented male and female amateur golfers aged 11-21 who will compete in scratch strokeplay over 18 holes, on Heaton Park's Championship course.
Application forms are available to download from The Faldo Series website www.nickfaldo.com/series
The event is free of charge for spectators and all are welcome on the day.
Catering facilities are available at the Golf Pavilion all day including a fully licensed bar.
