North Manchester awash with flower power
For a gardener's surgery offering advice for ailing plants and a selection of flowers straight from major shows such as RHS Tatton and Hampton Court, Heaton Park is the place to be this summer.
To improve horticultural facilities and services in North Manchester, the Earl of Wilton's former kitchen garden at Heaton Park has been brought back into use and will be hosting the park's first Summer Plant and Cacti Fair on Sunday 17 August.
Offering gardeners of all levels the opportunity to hone their skills, learn more about the plants they are growing and purchase a huge selection of exciting and colourful plants at a fraction of the usual retail cost, the Summer Plant and Cacti Fair, organised by garden event specialists, Flower Power, looks set to be a big hit.
Graham Kendall, former head gardener at the National Trust's Dunham Massey Park in Cheshire will be running a gardener's question time at the fair to provide advice on how to get the most out of plants and gardens and is also inviting people to bring along any 'diseased' or wilting specimens for inspection!
Councillor Rosa Battle, Assistant Executive Member for Culture and Leisure at Manchester City Council said: "The re-opening of the walled garden at Heaton Park is great news for North Manchester. Our research indicated that there was a strong need for a garden centre facility in the area and Heaton Hall's former kitchen garden was an ideal choice."
The Summer Plant and Cacti Fair takes place at Heaton Park Sunday 17 August 10am - 2pm. Admission £2.
