Environmental success for Heaton Park
Heaton Park has received a funding award for its eco credentials, which will see a range of environmental projects carried out in the coming months.
The Cooperative has awarded a grant of nearly £10,000 to the park for different schemes focusing on increasing the park's biodiversity and lowering its carbon footprint, after a successful application by the Heaton Park Trust for funding towards a range of environmentally focused projects.
Heaton Park staff will be working with volunteers from the community to deliver a range of separate projects including a planting scheme and the creation of a wildflower meadow to boost the honeybee's chances of survival and increase their declining numbers.
School groups can become involved in the scheme and should contact the park wardens on 0161 773 1085 extension 207.
Councillor Mike Amesbury, Manchester City Council's executive member for culture and leisure said: "This funding will go towards important environmental projects, which will both enhance the park and safeguard its long-term future. It will also provide local people with the opportunity to have a positive impact on the park by being involved in the different activities that these grants will allow."
