In September 2004 Manchester City Council handed over the newly refurbished Dower House to the Manchester District & Beekeepers and since then we have furnished it with an observation hive, equipment and displays and of course installed an apiary in the garden.

We have a number of bee hives in the garden and also a safe observation hive in Dower House where you can watch the bees going about their business.

The Dower House has been equipped to extract and bottle honey under hygiene conditions to food industry standards so we can continue to sell the popular Heaton Park Honey.

We started our beekeeping courses in April 2005 at the Dower House and because they were so popular have since extended these to theory courses in the nearby Abraham Moss Adult Learning Centre.
