Manchester music legends The Stone Roses will be the first act to perform a supergig at Manchester's Heaton Park.
The Stone Roses, who officially reunited this week after a break of more than 15 years, will play three nights at the 75,000 capacity open-air venue on Friday 29 June Saturday 30 June and Sunday 1st July 2012. The dates will form part of an extensive world tour.
( PLEASE NOTE TICKETS ARE NOT AVAILABLE FOR PURCHASE FROM HEATON PARK)
Tickets go on sale at 9.30am this Friday, October 21.
The Manchester band, whose eponymous 1989 debut album is widely considered to be one of the greatest albums of all time, have already been into a rehearsal studio to start work on the set-list for the one of the most eagerly anticipated reunifications ever.
Councillor Mike Amesbury, Manchester City Council's executive member for culture and leisure, said: "The Stone Roses are Manchester legends and the entire city is buzzing with the news they're getting back together. People who know the history of the band wouldn't have thought it possible and fans will be beside themselves with excitement."
Heaton Park proved itself a perfect outdoor location after the success of other large events at the park such as the Oasis shows of 2009.
Next year's shows will also pave the way for a string of exciting events that promise to bring the most hotly anticipated acts from around the world to Manchester, catering for a diverse range of tastes and drawing huge crowds from across the region.
Large events of this kind will be limited to three per year - plus a selection of smaller events - and the income generated will be used to fund further improvements at Heaton Park, which is already an important resource for the tens of thousands of people who visit the park each year.
Cllr Amesbury, said: "When we announced that Heaton Park was to host major concerts we said it would be one of the best venues in Europe, attracting the world's greatest acts. The fact that the Stone Roses will be the first band to perform is as fitting as it is exciting.
"There's no better place than Heaton Park to witness the resurrection of this amazing band. Heaton Park is one of the finest public parks in the country, if not the world, and the cash made from these concerts will be reinvested into the park to ensure it can be enjoyed for generations to come."
Rob Ballantine, Director of SJM Concerts, said: "Since the incredibly successful Oasis concerts we have worked closely with the Council to create a template for bringing more world class concerts to Heaton Park. We are therefore incredibly pleased to bring such an iconic band to this great Manchester Park.
"We look forward to working closely with the council, transport providers, the statutory authorities and local residents to ensure the success of the events with the minimum of disruption to the local area. As well as concerts that will forever live in the rich folklore of Manchester history these shows will bring a very welcome economic boost to Manchester next summer."
