Heaton Park runs a varied programme of activities and events to encourage outdoor recreation, education, entertainment and public access.

If you would like information regarding an upcoming public event please visit the whats on page for event details and/or for individual events contact details.

If you would like to run an activity in Heaton Park, it will need to meet a number of objectives. Events are carefully considered to provide a range of recreational oportunities, which enhance the reputation of Heaton Park, and give the public access to affordable, noteworthy and well run events without detracting from the overall nature of the park.

We will also need to consider  the availability of a particular site for an event against the overall impact it would have on the park and the park users throughout the year.

Small events in Heaton Park

Typical examples of small events are:

  • Sponsored runs, walks etc, for a few hundred people
  • A picnic
  • A guided walk
  • A community sports competition
  • One off small performing arts events such as outdoor opera, theatre production with a expected audience of a few hundred people

Large scale events in Heaton Park

Typical examples of large scale events are:

  • Outdoor concerts
  • Festivals
  • Large sponsored runs and walks
  • Large performing arts events
  • Exhibitions
  • Sports tournaments and festivals
  • Any event that would normally involve coordination with a variety of local authority employee's, emergency services or similar

Filming in Heaton Park

Heaton Park has made many a popular backdrop for feature films and television programmes.

People wish to film in Heaton Park for a variety of applications. If you would like to film,take photos or record audio you must obtain permission to do so.

For our purposes, the term filming refers to all forms of moving image production. This includes feature films, television, commercials, music videos, drama documentaries, corporate productions, video and interactive media.

The term photography refers to all forms of still, digital and photo imaging. This includes advertising, editorial, fashion and corporate photography.

Heaton Park welcomes filming in the park that is consistent with one or more of the following aims:

  • Promotes the park as a special natural environment and historical lanscape.
  • Respects the values of the park, our users and stakeholders.
  • Raises the profile of Manchester and Heaton Park as a tourist destination in the foreign and home markets.

All requests to film will be assesed according to these aims along with existing scheduled events and planned maintenace work.

Accommodation in Heaton Park


Whilst organising an event in Heaton Park why not consider staying in a grade-listed building? Smithy Lodge is available for hire. Costs start at £50 per person per night. (Maximum of 4 guests).  The lodge is graded as 3 star self catering accommodation as part of Visit Britain's grading system.
