Heaton Park is lucky to have a team of dedicated staff whose role is to enrich and enhance visits to the park.
As part of our educational programme we have a classroom on site, this enables the opportunity to bring the outdoor experiance into the classroom.
An example of activities that we provide are as follows:
Green Woodwork - This is an ancient craft involving traditional tools working with fresh green wood from Heaton Park. This can be a hands on activity using human powered equipment which dates back more than 2000 years and was used to make furniture and cooking utensils amongst other things.
Orienteering - Permanent orienteering course with a variety of difficultys ranging from very easy (1.7 Km) to medium difficulty (4km). Our team will go through and support the basics of map reading to enable you to navigate around Heaton Park.
Tree identification- In Heaton Park you will find a wide range of native and non native species of trees. Come and join our team to explore the wonders of the "lungs of Manchester" and learn more about the interwoven relationship between ourselves and trees.
Animal husbandry - This is a chance to get up close and personal with the animals in our farm centre whilst learning how to care for them.
Breakout activities- These sessions run throughout the school holidays and provide a wide a varied range of activities, such as fishing, bush craft woodland shelter biulding and wild walks, all activities need to be booked in advance and are provided for 8 to 14 year olds.
